The Full Story: Rob and Nick break down a week of sports and happenings in Geelong, and beyond...
This week saw Rob resplendent in his Geelong FC training attire, the only thing that could have been more confronting would have been his cycling lycra!
Enjoying the listen? If you feel like it, I’d love if you’d share this post with your friends! Or, if you received it from a friend, please forward to another.
Cycling, in fact, happened to be the first cab off the rank. This past weekend, the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road race took over Geelong. We talked about Rob's riding more than the pros', but there was agreeable debate about the merits of recreational riding and the economic boost that the event provided locally.
Glenn Maxwell rated a mention—due to rumour talk of him returning to cricket in Geelong this coming weekend, with his club Fitzroy-Doncaster. Rob tries to explain the complexities of a backward drive to fine-leg! There was also coercion in the BBL finals discussion. Usman Khawaja, the people's champion, nods his cap. And, a brief preview of the upcoming India Test series.
It was conference Sunday in the NFL. Rob’s Philadelphia Eagles progressed to the Super Bowl, beating the San Francisco 49ers, who bizarrely ran out of quarterbacks! And my own pick, the Kansas City Chiefs (who, for the record, play in Missouri, not Kansas), beat the Cincinnati Bengals. For the calendar: Super Bowl Sunday is Sunday, February 12 at 6:30 PM ET at State Farm Stadium, home of the Arizona Cardinals, in Glendale, Arizona.
And we finish with Geelong legend Ian Redpath, who is now inducted into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame, an absolute gentleman of the game in every sense of the word. I intend to write some considered words on Redders very soon.
